Folders can help you organize defects, test cases, and test runs. You can create a hierarchical folder structure to visually represent any segment of a project. You can add related records to folders so you and other users can easily access them without needing to create a filter or perform a search.

A folder can contain any combination of defects, test cases, and test runs. For example, you may want to group test cases and test runs for a feature in the same folder. You can also add a single record to multiple folders.

TestTrack 2008 and later includes public and private folders. Public folders can be accessed by other users and are helpful for organizing records for your team. Private folders cannot be accessed by other users and are helpful for organizing records related to your work.

[edit] About the Folders list window

The Folders list window provides access to folders. You can add, view, edit or delete folders from the Folders list window. You can also add, view, edit, or remove items in folders, and drag folders and items to re-organize them.

  1. Choose View > Folders. The Folders list window opens. Folders are displayed in the left pane.
  2. Select a folder to display its contents. The folder contents are displayed in the right pane.
  3. Select List recursively to display all items and child folders in the selected folder.

[edit] Creating folders

You can create shared public folders or private folders. Folders are stored on the TestTrack Server.

  1. Select the folder you want to add the new folder to on the Folders list window.
  2. Click Add then select Folder.
  3. Enter a Name and Description. The read-only Path field contains the folder that the new folder will be created in.

[edit] Adding items to folders

You can add items to folders when you are viewing or editing defects, test cases, or test runs. Folders group related records and help you and other users easily view the records without taking the time to search for them.

  1. Click the Folders tab when you are viewing or editing a defect, test case, or test run.
  2. Click Add to Folder.
  3. Select the folder to add the item to. You cannot add items directly to the Public or Private folders. These folders only contain child folders.
  4. Click Add to Folder. The item is added to the folder.
